Puppies and Healthy Living 3/28/13

Hey Tumblrs,

Long time, no see.  Apparently, I’m up to 17 followers, which is great!  I figured since I have a few minutes, I’d update you and maybe throw a few ideas or thoughts out there.  In recent weeks, my family lost our Bear within an unexpected 3 day deterioration of his health due to cancer and blood in his lungs.  We had to put him down.  It was heartbreaking, but I know that he’s no longer suffering and is with his wife up in doggy heaven.

My parents decided to get a new puppy a few weeks later, an Italian Mastiff we’ve named Zoeii.  She is adorable, but like all puppies, she is teething and working on being house trained.  Any tips you have would be appreciated.

I heard on the news this morning that many restaurants, about 97% I believe I heard, don’t have healthy food options for kids.  I think that’s an outrageous number.  This isn’t only fast food restaurants either.  So I thought I’d encourage you to not only try making your own food at home with local, fresh, and natural ingredients, but I also would love to see you share some of your favorite healthy recipes.  They don’t have to vegan or vegetarian, but those are appreciated as well.

I also read a post about this system of “suspended coffees,” and I thought that was wonderful.  How many people think about giving someone else a coffee when they are out getting theirs?  What about giving it to someone you don’t know who can’t afford it?  I hope more businesses will be open to this and will have days that they will advertise about suspended coffees and meals so that more people will do it.  It will help more people get the food they need. Also, I recommend buying fair trade coffee to help those in developing countries get their fair share of payment.

It’s almost bathing suit season, and I, like any girl, wanna look and feel confident in my bathing suit.  I got an email about this exercise program that my Zumba instructor is doing called the 10 Day Challenge.  I definitely recommend exercising and eating right if you want to get healthier or lose a few pounds.  You’re beautiful the way you are, but if there’s one thing I know, both genders want to be able to show off a little.  So I figured I’d share it all with you.  I think I might do it too, but I still have a lot of school work to do so we’ll see.

10 Day Challenge (only takes 10 minutes a day)

You will do:
25 crunches, knees bent
25 leg lifts, butt raises
25 Mason twists (full rotation right and left counts for 1 rep)
25 sec. plank hold
Repeat 3 sets, resting 30 seconds in between each set.
** If you can’t do 3 sets your first day, you do the most you can pushing yourself each day to do more. You WILL feel this. WHO’S IN FOR THIS CHALLENGE?? DAY 1 STARTS MONDAY, (so you can enjoy Easter dinner)

Here’s a video how to do Mason Twists

I also went to a Zumbathon (2 hours of Zumba) for Sandy Hook first responders  over my spring break.  It was fun.  I also celebrated my boyfriend’s 20th birthday with a surprise.  I showed up with my friend the night before his big day and hid in his apartment after lighting a cake and a line of cupcakes.  He was so happy!  That week, we also went to the aquarium and his Hindu temple.  I had 3 sleepovers with different people, since my camping trip was cancelled due to snow.  It overall wasn’t that bad of a break.  I even got to watch a little bit of a fencing lesson.

This week, we had an Easter egg hunt with the kids I tutor, and it was nice to see them running around and having fun outside.  I’m also still looking for help with my preemie nephew’s March of Babies team, Team Kaleb Mason.  If you have some extra money, please donate to this great cause, or any charity for that matter.  It means so much to someone out there.  Time for homework and school, so until next time, take care of yourself and others.

A quick little note 3/12/13

Hey everyone,

It’s about noon where I am, and technically I should be in class right now, but I had to finish some papers for it and I wasn’t feeling too well this morning.  I’ll be going to my second class of the day though, since the teacher bribed us with “participation= gradually reduced final” logic as well as the fact that if we all get 90% participation grades for the day at some point, he’ll cancel class for a day.

Anyways, I just thought I come by and check in on my blog to see where it is since I haven’t been on in a while (sorry about that, a lot of drama and school stress going on).  I made it to 15 followers though, and my quotes have been reblogged many times!  Thanks to all of you.

I should get going, but if I find time this week, I’ll come back and really give you the scoop on what’s been going on.  Until then, have a great day!

Love, Peace, and Joy,

"Dear friends, let us love one another, because love comes from God. Whoever loves is a child of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love. And God showed his love for us by sending his only Son into the world, so that we might have life through him. This is what love is: it is not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the means by which our sins are forgiven."

"There comes a time when you have to stand up and shout: This is me damn it! I look the way I look, think the way I think, feel the way I feel, love the way I love! I am a whole complex package. Take me…or leave me. Accept me- or walk away! Do not try to make me feel like less of a person, just because I don’t fit your idea of who I should be and don’t try to change me to fit your mold. If I need to change I alone will make that decision. When you are strong enough to love yourself 100%, good and bad- you will be amazed at the opportunities that life presents you."

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that frightens us most. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people won’t feel insecure around you. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in all of us. And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

"There are four questions of value in life…What is sacred? Of what is the spirit made of? What is worth living for, and what is worth dying for? The answer to each is the same. Only love."

"If you can heal the pain from cruel words with your voice, if you can smother the mental hurt inside my head with a beautiful literary line, if you can touch my heart with the smile on your lips, then you can heal my soul with all that, and the music that you make."

"Maybe we accept the dream has become a nightmare. We tell ourselves that reality is better. We convince ourselves it’s better that we never dream at all. But, the strongest of us, the most determined of us, holds on to the dream or we find ourselves faced with a fresh dream we never considered. We wake to find ourselves, against all odds, feeling hopeful. And, if we’re lucky, we realize in the face of everything, in the face of life the true dream is being able to dream at all."

"I am nothing special; just a common man with common thoughts, and I’ve led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten. But in one respect I have succeeded as gloriously as anyone who’s ever lived: I’ve loved another with all my heart and soul; and to me, this has always been enough."
